Knowledge Base Article: Resolving Email Sending Issues in QuickBooks
Issue: Users may encounter a problem where attempting to send an email from QuickBooks does not pop open the Outlook window to send emails.
Context: At Doug Fire, users have access to two versions of Outlook: a local desktop version and a remote application version. The remote Outlook, is similar in operation to your remote QuickBooks application.
Common Problem: This issue may h appen if the remote Outlook application gets stuck open in the background on the server, often due to improper closure or being left open for extended periods.
Resolution Steps:

Access Remote Apps: Navigate to the remote apps folder where the QuickBooks icon is located.

Identify Applications: In this folder, you will find several remote applications including Outlook, SME, QuickBooks, and Task Manager.

Open Task Manager: Launch the Task Manager remote app.

Locate Outlook in Task Manager: Scroll through the list to find "Outlook" characterized by a blue mail icon.

End Task: Select Outlook and choose to end the task, then close the remote Task Manager window.

Launch Remote Outlook: Open the remote Outlook application from the remote apps folder.

Test Email Function: Once Outlook loads, attempt to send an email from QuickBooks again. This should now be successful.

Keep Remote Outlook Open: It is advisable to leave the remote Outlook open and minimize it to the taskbar.

Proper Closure: At the end of the day, ensure you close the remote Outlook properly. To do this, go to the minimized or open remote Outlook, navigate to File > Exit. This step prevents Outlook from running in the background unintentionally.
Identifying Remote Apps:
- Remote applications in your taskbar are distinguishable by the presence of two arrows pointing towards each other on the Outlook icon. This symbol indicates that the app is running remotely.
